Yesterday I went for a walk from Gammelstad to Porsön. I chose this direction this time because of the stupid buses not running after 14:00 because it was a holiday. Gammelstad is a serious tourist trap, with people everywhere on a day like this. The road looked like this: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/246.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/247.jpg movie (5.1 MB): http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/folk.mp4 Making it worse was the fact that in the three days since the previous walk the road had dried up considerably. It was quite nice to walk this time. Not nearly as much mud. Anyway, I had brought a pair of boots, so even though the road was better I decided to wear them. After a while the tourists became fewer and I changed into my protective gear: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/248.jpg I didn't just use different shoes, I also used a different jacket (cotton instead of nylon) and while I was at it I also used a different hat and mosquito net and a different pair of gloves: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/VK/VK.jpg At first I got annoyed because the net kept brushing against my face (it's a much thinner net than the other one), but then I got an idea. I moved my hair to the front, so it weighed the net down. This way I got some free space in front of my face. Much more comfortable: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/VK/VK_side.jpg Here is that grill place again. No German tourists there this time so I went up there and took a picture of the view: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/251.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/252.jpg (I even managed to get the church to show up under a branch!) I also took a look inside the little red building ["wind shield"?]. I have seen similar things before and those have had wooden floors where one can sleep but this one was not very inviting: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/253.jpg This time I was walking in the "right" direction, but the first sign I saw was aimed away from me when I walked in this direction. Weird! http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/254.jpg As I said, the road was much better than the other time. The rail road was quite comfortable (and not just because I was wearing boots). There were just a few wet places: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/261.jpg Compare to this picture of the same place three days earlier: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_Porson_Gammelstad/205.jpg I saw a couple of annoying animals on the road: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/262.jpg The spoke English and did not seem to have a clue about where they were or where they were going. Fortunately they only went as far as the little barn and then turned back again. Here is that place where I stepped through a rotten plank. My "foot print" is still sort of visible: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/263.jpg Compare to older pictures: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_Porson_Gammelstad/198.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_Porson_Gammelstad/199.jpg Since I was wearing boots I could step into the water in front of the barn and check out what it looks like inside: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/264.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/265.jpg Some more of that "protected environment": http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/266.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/267.jpg The tunnel. http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/268.jpg movie (14.4 MB) http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/Tunnel.mp4 New motorcycle tracks: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/269.jpg What is that white stuff? http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/270.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/271.jpg [I made another film of the scary planks on the water, but for some reason I have not been able to email it to myself from the phone (I'm guessing the 50 MB was too much).] The bridge (movie, 21.4 MB) Bro.mp4 Looks like somebody else has stepped on a rotten plank: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/274.jpg The tower, seen from the other side: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/277.jpg And this time I remembered to take pictures of those photos at the top of the information sign: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/279.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/280.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/281.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/282.jpg (I also understood why I had not done so before, and why I had not noticed until I got home. Those pictures were so high up I almost couldn't reach to take the pictures. That sign must have been made by some tall person.) Wroom wroom! Big tracks! http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/283.jpg More mosquito pictures: VK/mygg1.jpg VK/mygg2.jpg VK/mygg3.jpg VK/mygg4_close.jpg VK/mygg5_close.jpg Then I got to the part closer to Porsön where it's always wet. The boots were really nice to have here! That place where the rocks are keeping the water like a swimming pool: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/293.jpg Seen from the opposite end three days earlier: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_Porson_Gammelstad/051.jpg [I passed the place where I soaked one shoe earlier, but even there it was better. I would not have had that problem this time.] Other places were not much different: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/296.jpg Compare to three days earlier: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_Porson_Gammelstad/046.jpg Another example: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/297.jpg Earlier picture: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_Porson_Gammelstad/041.jpg Here's the light at the end of this tunnel (the Brännvin Road turns into a bike road a little bit further ahead). http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/299.jpg Same place from the other side: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/300.jpg And three days earlier: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_Porson_Gammelstad/036.jpg The end: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/301.jpg If you look a little bit to the right you can see the bus drivers' toilet: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/302.jpg From the bike road: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/303.jpg http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/304.jpg It's very easy to miss the beginning of the path if you don't know where to look and what to look for: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/305.jpg Sitting down on the bench at the bus stop and changing shoes. My socks were dry, but the trousers were not: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/photo/2010/06_midsommar/VK/feet.jpg Then I walked home (because there were no more buses that day). No horses. There were some birds, but when I tried to make some nice little bird movies I must have made some kind of mistake because they all turned out extremely blurry.
