A typical sig could contain:

* The person's name and or handle (should be there in some form)
* Email address (should be there)
* Homepage URL (a good way to advertise one's page)
* Any other contact info you might like, e.g. phone number...
* The person's name or handle in ascii art (see Figlet info below)
* A small ascii image (see the asciii art FAQ, URL below)
* A favourite quote (not too long though)

Good netiquette says a sig should be small, preferably not more than
four lines high and 70-80 columns wide (a practical maximum width for
posting to newsgroups is about 72 characters, to avoid wrapping in the
majority of news readers).

They are sites with a program called "Figlet" that "translates"
ordinairy text to text "painted" as ascii art. It can be downloaded and
run on your computer or used directly on the web, where it can be found
in the form of CGI scripts.



ASCII art info

The newsgroup alt.ascii-art is also a good place to request sigs (be
careful though, that group is probably the only place on Usenet where
big sigs are on-topic, so some of the sigs you see there might not be
ideal for use in other newsgroups).
