About the artist:
Alan Lee was born in Middlesex in 1947. He attended the Ealing School of Art, secialising in illustration, and he illustrated a wide range of books including The Lord of the Rings, from which these paintings have been taken, Faeries (with Brian Froud), The Mabinogion, Castles and Merlin Dreams. He also worked on the film Erik the Viking.
Tolkien's work has inspired him ever since reading The Lord of the Rings at an early age. He now lives and works on the edge of Dartmoor, in Devon.

About the artist:
Michael William Kaluta was born on August 25, 1947 in Guatemala City, the son of American parents. His early art influences included his high school art teachers at the Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. He also studied art at the Richmond Professional Institute now Virginia Commonwealth University.
Since then he has worked for D C Comics, Fantastic Stories and Amazing Stories, National Lampoon and a variety of film studios. His illustrative work includes several Batman covers, The Shadow, Starstruck, Bill the Galactic Hero and The Abyss.
He has long cherished a wish to illustrate The Tolkien Calendar.

About the artist:
John Howe was born in 1957 in Vancouver, Canada. After finishing High School, he moved to France in 1976. He attended the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg, where he gained a Diploma in Illustration in 1981. He currently lives in Switzerland with his wife, Fataneh, who is also an illustrator, and his five year old son, Dana. He has illustrated many children's books. His work has featured in several previous Tolkien Calendars and on posters commemorating the 50th anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit and the Centenary of Tolkien's birth.

Personal comment:
Great pictures. John Howe is a great artist and his pictures from Middle-earth makes me want to go there.

About the artist:
Ted Nasmith, the illustrator of The Dream of Aengus (1994), and previous J.R.R. Tolkien Calendars, lives and works in the town of Markham just outside Toronto, Canada, with his wife and three children. His freelance work includes architecturalrendering, car illustration and much more else, all of which are overshadowed by over 20 years of keen interest in Tolkien. His stron feeling of kinship with the author is reflected in his sensitive interpretations of Tolkien's mythical world. He also has a wider interest in reading, music and art.
This calendar is dedicated to the memory of Raymond Percy Bradbury, choral director, mentor and friend, whose encouragement of my interest in Tolkien was crucial; and for which I will always be grateful.

Personal comment:
My absolute favourite. Some pictures really makes me feel myself inside Tolkien's world. In my opinion Ted is the very best artist that make paintings about Middle-earth. If you can't buy one. Steal one. :-)
