LUDD:s computer systems is ran by a group called luddadm. Traditionally the group has consisted of 3-6 root administrators that have been responsible for all computer systems including lcnet, mail, vortex, userwww, and physical computers in T1.


New structure

Moving in to 2020, we are however attempting to change that to involve more members to help with administration of our systems. This is both because we are have more areas to administrate, and also to make sure that not only 3-6 people are the ones that get to have all the fun.

We are therefore introducing admgroups, that we hope to recruit both alumni and new members to to assist with operations.

Alumni help

In some groups we have or look for paying members that are not studying at the university any more. These positions exist for people that want to tinker with systems in their spare time and hopefully assist our active students to help them learn more about development, systems administration etc. To help out as an alumni we expect about 1-2h per week dedicated to LUDD.


LUDD admin groups

Apart from the core root team, there are the current admin groups at LUDD. Alumni members are denoted with brackets behind their name representing the company/university they work for.

Storage & backup group

Responsible for Ceph/NFS & seedvault (backup) subsystems. Linux administration & distributed storage focus.

Dustcloud group

Responsible for dustcloud web and VM orchestration. Works on development and operations on the virtualization platform.

DUST HPC Lab group

Responsible for DUST HPC Lab hosts and software (slurm/jupyterlab). Handles the scientific HPC environment for Matlab, Jupyter etc.

LUDD Infra group

Responsible for consul/nomad as well as provisioning. Core responsibility for service discovery and orchestration, as well as provisioning.

Responsible for edge (routers), trafficlb and switches. Also handles DHCP & DNS.
